Philipp Grigoryan will speak about his collaboration with Brusnikin Studio students on Cannon Fodder. Cannon Fodder is Grigoryan’s new adaptation of a work by Belarusian playwright Pavel Pryazhko. He previously staged Pryazhko’s The Third Shift (Joseph Beuys Theatre), The Chukchi (Molot Stage, Perm) and The Field (The School of Contemporary Play, Moscow). Grigoryan will explain what he likes about Pavel Pryazhko’s work, how his new production is different from the previous ones, and how he developed the stage design in collaboration with designer Vlada Pomirkovannaya. He will also answer questions about his upcoming projects, speak about contemporary theatre and share his ideas on contemporary art.
Philipp Grigoryan is an acclaimed Russian director, one of the key figures on the country’s contemporary theatre scene. He studied at Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute an worked as an actor at Vakhtangov Theater. In the early 2000s decided to focus on directing multi-genre projects. His works include Medeamaterial at Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, Tartuffe at Stanislavsky Electrotheatre, and The Stone, The Wedding and Clockwork Orange at the State Theatre of Nations. He often combines the role of the director with that of a stage designer and has received several literary and theatre prizes. In 2013 he won the only Golden Mask ever awarded to a performance created for Territory Festival with his production The Full Moon.
