Tero Saarinen's Workshop

About performance

Tero Saarinen was born in Finland. He received a classical ballet education, and in 1985 entered the Finnish National Ballet troupe. Despite his evident success, in 1992 Saarinen left the theatre after becoming interested in contemporary dance. He first went to Kathmandu, where he studied traditional Nepalese dance, then to Tokyo, where at Kazuo Ohno School he studied Butoh dance, and Kabuki at the Fujiyama School. He created his own theater company called the Toothpick in 1996, and in 2002 gave it his own name — Tero Saarinen Theatre Company. His workshop, which will be given within the framework of Territory festival, is a rare opportunity to get to know and see various directions, techniques and approaches of contemporary dance.
